Restricting Shoreline Duck Hunting

If you and your neighbors want to prevent duck hunting on your waterfront property, you may apply for a license to protect your waterfowl. You simply apply for a license and no one will be able to hunt on your waterfront. The deadline is June 1. The complete text can be found here: http://dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Licenses/riparian.asp

The following is an excerpt from the Department of Natural Resources regarding licensing:

Licensing for Riparian Landowners

Any person owning riparian property in Maryland may license their shoreline, regardless of their state of residency. Persons owning property in Virginia that is adjacent to the tidal waters of the Potomac River may also license their shoreline.

Any riparian landowner, regardless of how much shoreline they own, may license their shoreline to prevent the shoreline from being licensed at a later date by someone else. Once a stretch of shoreline is licensed, no other person may receive a license for the same shoreline, whether or not the original licensee establishes a stationary blind or blind site.

Please consider a shelter animal when you are ready to welcome a new pet into your home.

Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center

We held this year’s second fundraiser at the Greene Turtle. With our gift basket raffle, contributions from OWRC friends who attended the party, and the 10% of sales generously donated by the restaurant, we raised over $1100.  These much-needed funds are critical for the unprecedented number of orphaned and injured wildlife that we are seeing this year. Many thanks to all who participated, as well as those who sent us donations. It was such fun to meet new supporters and exchange ideas about the animals we care so much about. Fundraising is essential for us to continue to rescue animals, as there are no government funds available for our work. If you are interested in hosting a fundraiser, please let us know!
