Tom Stratton, Vice-President, OWRC

Tom discovered OWRC when Ron showed up one day to purchase medical equipment. The discussion naturally turned to wildlife. When Tom learned that OWRC was a non-profit organization, he gathered up all his surplus medical supplies and donated them to OWRC. A tour of the facility followed and Tom was hooked. Watching Ron at work, Tom was amazed at his caring attitude, technical skills, and extensive knowledge of wildlife. He was also impressed by the long hours and hard work required to save animals. He says that Ron is his hero. Tom loves all critters. He's especially fond of squirrels which he calls fascinating and innovative creatures with a built-in ingenuity in getting to food. He’d like people to realize that we share the same space and, most often, the animals were here first. We should recognize that they are just doing what comes naturally to them to survive. We need to find a way to peacefully co-exist. “It’s just nature!” he says.
Bonnie Combs Rogers, Secretary, OWRC

Bonnie has been with OWRC since its beginning in 1990. Growing up on a farm in Kentucky, she has always loved animals. She is proud to say that she has been able to convert some family hunters into wildlife rehabilitators. Bonnie says that baby animals are very much like human babies. They need and deserve the same kind of care as our own children. She also feels that it is necessary to recognize the very valuable role that wildlife plays in our ecological system. She totally supports the beliefs and values of OWRC’s “no-kill” policy. While she loves all species, she is particularly fond of turtles and deer.
John Rekstad, Treasurer, OWRC

When John retired from his government job, he found the perfect way to spend his time - as a volunteer for OWRC. With a natural gift for crunching numbers, he easily assumed the position of Treasurer. In addition, he studied to receive his certification and is now one of the captains of Rescue I and Rescue II, OWRC's on-water rescue vessels.
